For her Staff Pick of the Week, Emily Whitesides looked no further than the store’s own musical talent with Dirt Fishermen‘s Glenn’s Car/Demo Tape.
Featuring RX staffers Glenn Newkirk and Dan Krejci, Dirt Fishermen was a grunge-era Boise/NW band that toured with Sunny Day Real Estate and the Mieces and recorded for Seattle label C/Z, also home to Treepeople, Caustic Resin, Seven Year Bitch and Built to Spill. The band reunited briefly in 2006 and still occasionally plays around town.
Here’s what Emily had to say about the album:
The Dirt Fishermen will be playing a show at the VaC this Saturday, so I’ve been listening up on this record. Hypnotic female vocals pair with lyrics demanding self-reflection and the ethical treatment of animals. Oh, and the drummer is a bad ass, especially when combined with bassist Dan Krejci. This album is an essential part of Boise’s music scene, past and present!
